Service for Mary Wade to Be Saturday (1953)

Requiem High Mass will be celebrated for Mary Wade, 94, Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick;s Catholic Church in Dougherty, Father A.A.McAvoy will officiate.

Mrs. Wade, former resident of Dougherty, died Tuesday at her home in Chicago.

She was the daughter of a pioneer Iowa couple, the late Daniel J. and Mary (Gallagher) Dougherty. Her father founded the town of Dougherty. She was born Dec. 6, 1861, at McGregor and at an early age moved to Dougherty with her parents.

Her husband was the late John F. Wade, Iowa Welfare Leader and once chairman of the State Board of Control.

She was the mother of Beatrice D. Wade, director of occupational therapy and associate professor at the University of Illinois Medical School, and three sons, Martin J. Wade, Chicago, Clem F. Wade, Evanston, Ill., both attorneys, and Hugh J. Wade, treasurer of the Territory of Alaska.

Also surviving are a brother, Joseph H. Dougherty, Butte Mont., and a sister, Miss Margaret Dougherty, Dougherty, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and ten brothers, one of whom was the late Monsignor Edward Dougherty.

The body will lie in state at the Margaret Dougherty home in Dougherty from 1 p.m. Friday until the time of services.

Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Dougherty. The Colonial Funeral Home in charge.
