MASON CITY --- Herbert Paul Doering, 91, of Mason City died Wednesday (Oct. 30, 2002) at his home.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Lutheran church, 1148 4th St. S.E., Mason City, with Rev. Scott Duffus officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania, Mason City, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Herbert P. Doering memorial fund.

Herb was born Aug. 10, 1911, in Mason City the son of Paul A. and Bertha S. (Wandrey) Doering. He attended and graduated from Mason City High School in the Class of 1927. Herb was married to Rose "Lucille" Bamrick in Mason City. He worked as head timekeeper at the Jacob E. Decker/Armour plant for 47 years, retiring in 1975. Herb was a member of St. James Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He counted money and ushered for many years at the church. He was a member of the Armour/Decker salaried retired employees men's club, Senior Citizens and past member of the Elks Club. He was an avid sports fan, Yankees fan and enjoyed reading Western novels and working crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his four children; a daughter, Sister Mary Louann, Lawler, son, Paul R. Doering and his wife, Janice, Las Vegas, Nev., daughter, Joan M. Baack and her husband, Gary, Wichita, Kan., son, David J. Doering and his wife, Donell, of Mason City; his grandchildren, Dr. Tom Doering and wife, Jennifer, Rothschild, Wis., Mike Doering and his wife, Jacquie, Henderson, Nev., Peter Doering and wife, Vicky, Union City, Calif., Dawn Doering, Sarasota, Fla., Gail McCasland and her husband, Chad, Las Vegas, Nev., Steve Baack, Maryville, Ill., Jim Baack and wife, Cathy, Rushville Ill., Anne (Baack) Irizzary, St. Joseph, Mo., Paul Baack and his wife, Amy, Kansas City, Mo., John Baack and wife, Chelley, Omaha, Neb., Mary Baack, St. Joseph, Mo., Jen Doering, Mason City and Chris Doering, Mason City; and his nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother; his wife in 1975; daughter, Dorothy Thompson in 1963; his brothers, Donald and Alfred; and a special friend, Genevieve Naae.
