Gladys was born July 27, 1908, the daughter of Jules and Emma (Portner) Nicolet in Cleghorn, Iowa. Her family lived in the Iowa Falls area for a couple of years before they then moved to Thornton where Gladys graduated from high school. Following high school, Gladys received further education at Iowa State Teachers College. She returned to teach in rural schools for several years.

On February 6, 1937, Gladys was united in marriage to Arthur Lyle Dixon at the First United Methodist Church parsonage in Mason City. The couple lived on a farm near Meservey for five years before moving to the farm southwest of Mason City. Gladys moved to the nursing home in 1982 and spent most of the next twenty years there.

During Gladys' younger years, she enjoyed doing needlework including tatting and embroidery work. She enjoyed the activities and worship services at Good Shepherd even though she had suffered a stroke 34 years ago and was left paralyzed on her left side. Gladys never considered herself handicapped. She loved attending her children's and grandchildren's school and church programs. Gladys enjoyed attending birthday parties and always looked forward to Christmas. She was an avid reader who could not wait to get her hands on the newspaper.

Gladys was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Wesley United Methodist Women and the Bath Farm Women.

Those thankful for having shared in Gladys' life include her son Delton Dixon and his wife, LeAnn, of Mason City; one sister, Mabel Oehlert of Rockwell; three grandchildren, Sara Broers and her husband, Todd, of Mason City, Jeff Dixon and his wife, Michelle, of Mason City, and Kari McMannes and her husband, Jeremy, of Suwanee, Ga.; and six great- grandchildren, Justin and Jenna Dixon, Blaine and Garrett Broers, and Austin and Connor McMannes.

Mrs. Dixon was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur, in 1971; six sisters, Edith, Alice, Rose, Emma, Nellie and Helen; and two brothers, Armand and Henry.
