MASON CITY – Dr. John B. Dixon, 100, of Mason City, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City.

John Barney Dixon was born September 16, 1918, in Kansas City, Missouri.

After graduating from the University of Kansas, he received his medical degree from the Kansas University Medical Center and did specialty training in ophthalmology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.

He married Mary Jane Stevenson in 1942 and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After Jane's passing from Alzheimer's disease, John stayed busy volunteering and socializing with colleagues and good friends. He also kept in close touch, in person and long-distance, with his children, grandchildren and other family members.

He leaves a daughter, Susan (Larry) Dalton, her two sons, John (Tonya) Zook and Dan Zook; grandson, Michael E. Dixon; as well as great-grandchildren, Riley and Jaxen Zook and Charlie and Sarah Zook. He also is survived by his sister, Mary Scharmann; sister in-law, Dottie Dixon, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dr. Dixon was preceded in death by his parents, O. Jason and Olive Dixon; loving wife, Jane Dixon; three brothers; one sister and his son, Mike Dixon.

A Special thank you to Nancy Linderman, who gave such kind and loving care to Dr. Dixon during his final years while at home and at Good Shepherd. We will all miss his curiosity about EVERYTHING, his wry sense of humor, his predictable unpredictability, his gregarious personality, his naïve spirit and his forgiving nature.

The family requests no flowers or donations. Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapels, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City.641-423-2372.
