Manly –- Winifred E. Dickinson, 84, of Manly died Sunday (March 2, 2014) at the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center, 601 E South St, Manly, IA.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday March 8, 2014 at Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 E South St, Manly, IA with Reverend Don Preston officiating. A public gathering will take place one hour prior to the service at Bethel United Methodist Church. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Those who desire may direct memorials to Bethel United Methodist Church.

Winifred E. Dickinson was born March 27, 1929 to Chester and Bessie (Maley) Hendrickson in Manly, IA. In 1947 she graduated from Manly. Winifred went on to get her 2 year degree in teaching from Waldorf College.

On September 3, 1950 Winifred was united in marriage to Carroll Dickinson. Together they had one daughter, Nancy. While he was overseas serving his country Winifred taught 1st and 2nd grade in Rolfe, IA. After her husband's return they moved back to Manly where she worked as a Paraprofessional at Garfield Elementary in Mason City. She later went on to attend UNI to update her teaching credentials and was awarded a Bachelor's degree in education. For twenty plus years she taught Kindergarten at North Central, retiring in 1993.

Winifred enjoyed many things. She was a member of the Entre Nous Circle at church, and sang in the Bethel Choir. She loved to read, cross stitch, play cards and garden. In earlier years she enjoyed dancing, playing golf and camping trips with her family. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her two grandsons, Ben and Jordan.

She was a kind and caring spirit who will be greatly missed. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Nancy (John) Lass, Mason City; grandsons, Benjamin Lass and Jordan Lass, Mendota Heights, MN; brother, Vergil (Jeannette) Hendrickson, Kankakee, IL; sister-in-law, Phyllis Dickinson, Waterloo, IA; nieces and nephews, Deborah (Harry) Bond, Kankakee, IL; Brian (Caroline) Hendrickson, Conifer, CO; Linda Anderson, St. Louis, MO; Susan (Rod) Rowland, Waverly, IA; Lynn (Gary) Kloberdanz, Waterloo, IA; Jan (Duane) Hendrickson, Hamel, MN and Dawn (Jon) Pegis, Skokie, IL; as well as many other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Dickinson; parents Chester and Bessie Hendrickson; sister, Ethelyn Snyder; brothers-in-law, Elmer Snyder and Merle Dickinson.
