Clear Lake — Thomas John DeWilde, 71, 4144 South Shore Drive, Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, Friday, May 17, 2013.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. preceding the service. Memorials may be given to the Thomas J. DeWilde Memorial Fund.

Tom was born Sept. 5, 1941, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Nicholas A. and Katherine (Riehm) DeWilde. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1959 and attended Mason City Junior College. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Mason City, and was a member of the Iowa Army National Guard for six years.

Tom and Sandra Allen were married Jan. 3, 1963. Tom owned and operated DeWilde Auto Service in Mason City, which was started by his father in 1932. Tom enjoyed his lake home, boating, reading and doing yard work. It was a place he could relax while sitting on the deck enjoying his family.

Tom loved his Canadian fishing trips and muskie fishing. The family took annual trips to northern Minnesota and Canada, which was time well spent with their children and grandchildren. They also own a home in Bonita Springs, Fla., where they enjoy not only the weather, but visits from Sandy’s father, children, grandchildren and friends

Tom is survived by his wife, Sandra DeWilde, Clear Lake; children Tamara (Daniel) Kroc, Libertyville, Ill., and Jason DeWilde, Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren, Ashley and Kelly Kroc and Ellen, Tommy and Andy DeWilde; sister, Carolyn (Jerry) Pringle, Mason City; cousin, Lois (Harry) Robbins, Garner, Iowa; father-in-law, Frank Allen, Charles City, Iowa; and brother-in-law, Scott (Kathy) Allen, Des Moines, Iowa.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Katherine DeWilde; and mother-in-law, Wilma Allen.
