CLEAR LAKE --- God received our angel, our most amazing wife and mom, Marilyn Joan DeWitt Dankle on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, from Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Open visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with a Scriptural Wake Service beginning at 7:00. A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Clear Lake. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Humane Society of North Iowa.

Proud mother of eight children, 18 grandchildren, and one great-grandson, Marilyn was a New Year's baby born on January 1, 1935, to Julie Barron and Marvin DeWitt. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1952, W.K asked Marilyn to dance at Danceland in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They were united in marriage on September 2, 1954, and just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Marilyn and W.K. served in the Army Medical Corp first in Denver and then in Panama. They lived in Cresco, Iowa before settling in Clear Lake in January 1963.

Marilyn was extremely active in the Clear Lake community, as a realtor, serving on the Parks and Recreation Board, the Harbourage Board, and was a founding member of the Clear Lake Arts Council. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church where in early years, she taught catechism classes. She was most feared for her flying knitting needles at CLHS wrestling meets while watching her five sons wrestle.

Snippets of Marilyn:

• She was a Renaissance woman who was an artist, gardener, seamstress and finish carpenter.

• A big personality that was only overshadowed by her bigger heart.

• An unofficial humane society for cats and dogs

• An only child who chose to raise eight children and as “Rhiney” Andersen used to say, “not a bad one in the bunch”.

•She was known for her numerous, no countless, “Life is Good” sweatshirts that keenly captured her outlook on life.

•The intellectual who was curious about everything and embraced the digital world with a passion.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Dr. W.K. Dankle and her children: Dr. Steve (Sara), Dr. Mark (Zoe), Dr. Casey (Nancy), Julie (Tom), Dr. Jon (Maureen), Ted (Susan), Cara (Scott), Dr. Jenny (Wes), and eighteen grandchildren, two granddaughters-in-law, and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
