November 24, 2014MASON CITY --- Violet Dahl, 83, of Mason City, Iowa, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, Iowa, with Pastor Sid Bohls officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel and then one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Violet Dahl was born January 28, 1931, near Northwood, Iowa, a daughter of Martin H. and Mabel (Helgeson) Myre. She was united in marriage to Wesley Dahl on April 17, 1949, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett, Iowa.
Violet worked at Buehler’s Café in Mason City for several years as well as other area restaurants. Violet’s life was centered on her family. She loved spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, bird watching and trying out recipes, playing cards and dominos, particular Mexican Train. Camping trips with family and traveling with her twin sister and husband were special highlights.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley Dahl, Mason City; daughters, Darla (Larry) Westling, Mason City, Tina (Todd) Piper, Mason City; sons, Steven (Irene) Dahl, Prior Lake , MN, David (Cindy) Dahl, Mason City; 13 grandchildren, Nicole (Johnny) Martin, Mason City, Jaime (Jay) Todd, Pasadena, CA, Craig (Dena) Westling, Denver, CO, Marc Westling, Denver, CO, Robert Birke, Jeffersonville, IN, Christopher (Megan) Birke, Jeffersonville, IN, David (Andrea) Birke, Plainfield, IN, Casey Dahl, Rochester, MN, Ryan Dahl, Australia, Katie (Aaron) Rush, Waterloo, Andrea Piper, Des Moines, Rachelle Piper, Cedar Falls, Brock Piper, Mason City; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alyce (Marvell) Brunsvold, Mason City, Marcella Smith, Adams, MN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie (Gene) Sankey, Harlingen, TX, Pete Longergan, Rose Creek, MN, Jo Ann (Robert) Theilen, Orange, CA, Vivian Dahl, Greenfield, IA; numerous nieces and nephews.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister Viola Lonergan; sister, Hazel Sime; brothers-in-law, Vernon “Pat” Smith, Arnold Sime, and Hubert Dahl; sister-in-law, Miriam Boyce and husband John; and a nephew, Robert Boyce.
