Mike was born July 22, 1950, in Mason City, the son of James Gerald "Jerry" and Donna (Abbott) Cahalan. He graduated from Newman High School in 1968 and attended the University of Northern Iowa. He was united in marriage to Glenda Ostermann on Aug. 16, 1975, in Buffalo Center. Their marriage was blessed with three sons, Tony, Marc and Rob, who brought much joy to Mike's life.

Mike worked at Home Lumber and Builders in Mason City for almost 30 years. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed following the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians. He coached his son's many little league teams through the years, which was very important to him because his father, Jerry, built the program.

Mike was an active member of the Mohawk Booster Club and could be seen at many Mohawk events. He was also a member of the Mason City Knights of Columbus. In his free time he was often seen on the golf course.

Mike is survived by his wife, Glenda; three sons, Tony, Marc and Rob; his mother, Donna Cahalan; three sisters and their husbands, Mary Ann and Tom Trezona, Barb and Gary Reynolds, and Diane and Scott Kruckenberg; four brothers and their wives, Fred and Karren Cahalan, Jim and Shelly Cahalan, Dan and De Ann Cahalan, and John and Cassie Cahalan; his mother-in-law, Frances Ostermann; two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Doug and Kim Ostermann and Mark and Kim Ostermann; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jerry; his stepfather, John; his father-in-law, Don Ostermann; and his grandparents.

Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, (641) 423-2372.
