Funeral Held at St. Patrick's Monday

Last Saturday the remaining Mrs. P. J. O'Donnell arrived here from Valley City, N. Dak. where she died last Friday morning at 10:a.m. at Platou hospital after three weeks illness from adhesion of the bowels which finally developed into peritonitis.
A telegram was received here on April 17th announcing her serious illness, her sister, Mrs. J. A. Conwell and sister-in-law Mrs. Will Tinney left at once for Sanborn, N. Dak. and were joined at St. Paul by another sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs Christie Cavanaugh of Waterloo.

When they arrived at Sanborn, they learned that she was in the hospital at Valley City, where they immediately went finding her in a serious condition.

She remained in the hospital two weeks and on May 1st underwent an operation which she survived by only 14 hours.

Elizabeth Smith was born in Dubuque county near Epworth on July 3rd, 1874. She was the 6th daughter and the 7th child of a family of ten children.

She lived with her parents Mr. and Mrs Thos. Smith near Epworth util 1901 when she came to Dougherty and made her home with her sister, Mrs. J. A. Conwell, and while a resident here made many friends by her sunny and kindly disposition.

On October 2nd she was united in marriage to P. J. O'Donnell, a son of Mrs. J. A. O'Donnell of this place, the cermony taking place at Farley, Ia.

To this union were born four children one son preceding her to the grave.
The remaining children are Rosetta, aged 9, Patrica, aged 7, and Joseph aged 2.
Besides the children she leaves to mourn her loss
a loving husband, five sisters and three brothers, also her aged parents, her father being in his 93rd year.
The brothers and siters are St. Mary Smith in the convent of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Seattle, Wash., Mrs James Conwell of Dougherty, John, Thomas and Joe Smith of Dubuque county.
Mrs Christie Cavanaugh of Dewar, Mrs Charles Veach of Wimbeldon N. Dak., one sister preceding her to the grave.

The deceased was a devout member of the Catholic church and before her death recieved all the rites and consolation of her faith.
The funeral was Monday morning from the J. A. O'Donnell residence.

She will be sadly missed by her husband and children whose home has been broken up by her loss.
The heartbroken husband returned Monday to his home in N. Dak. leaving the children in care of relatives, the girls going to the home of their Aunt at Waterloo, the boy remaining with his grandmother at this place.

The sympathy of the community is extended to the breaved family in their hour of affliction.

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs Christie Cavanaugh of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs Pat Cavanaugh of Dewar, Mr. and Mrs Chas. Veach of Wimbeldon, N. Dak. Messrs. Jno. Thos. and Joseph Smith and wives of Farley, Ia., and Mrs Thos. Clark of Mason City, and Mr. and Mrs D. O'Donnell of Stockton, Ill.
