MASON CITY --- Annie Borger, 79, of 1012 N. Harrison Ave., died Saturday (Oct. 26, 1996) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave., with the Rev. Frederick J. Wood officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St.Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Senior Citizens Center or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Annie Borger was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Mason City, the daughter of Lawrence and Jadwiga (Kosinska) Szymeczek. Annie and her husband, Fred, operated the Borger Grocery for 15 years. Annie also worked at Mode O'Day, Mason City Tent & Awning and S.S. Kresge Co. She was nominated for the North Iowa Mercy Silver Advantage Award in 1994.

Annie was an avid member of R.S.V.P., volunteered at Good Shepherd and was a member of the Senior Citizens Center where she was chairperson of the Quilting Club. Annie also was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and loved sewing quilts.

Survivors include four children, Joe Borger and his wife, Thelma, of Mason City; John Borger and his wife, Judy, of Mason City; Joan Pierce and her husband, Donavon Jr., of Oskaloosa, and Jimmy Borger and his wife, Judy, of Mason City; 11 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, George Szymeczek and his wife, Edna, of Rosenberg, Texas, and Frank Szymeczek and his wife, Suzy, of Washington, N.C.; four sisters, Katherine Schritt of Mason City; Vesha Borger of Mason City; Frances Gardner and her husband, James, of Hobart, Ind., and Rosie Austin and her husband, Gene, of Mason City; many nieces and nephews; and special friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Borger in 1975; parents; two brothers, Joe and John Szymeczek; and one sister, Mary Zemanek.
