MASON CITY --- Ima Jean (Dehnert) Birch, 63, of 1000 S. Illinois Ave. #905, died Saturday (July 27, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E.

Ima Jean Birch was born June 2, 1933, in St. Paul, Minn., daughter of Clifford and Verene (Rahm) Dehnert. She married Paul Birch on Sept. 25, 1955, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

Ima Jean grew up in Mason City and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in 1950. She then attended LaJames Beauty School. She and her husband moved to California, where she worked as a legal secretary.

Following her husband's death in 1984, she returned to Mason City.

Jean's biggest pride was her grandson, Austin.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Birch and his wife, Lynda, of Mission Viejo, Calif.; one grandson, Austin Birch, of Mission Viejo, Calif.; one brother, Gerald Dehnert and his wife, Joan, of Mason City; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Donald and Wilber Dehnert.
