MASON CITY - Lavonne C. Baker, 95, of Clear Lake, formerly of Mason City, died Saturday, October 6, 2018, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave. Inurnment will be held in Elmwood St. - Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St SE, Mason City, Iowa, 50401. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.

LaVonne was born on December 13, 1922, in Iowa Falls, IA, the daughter of Harry E. and Lyda (Vekre) Lunning. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1940 and attended Hamilton Business College.

On March 17, 1943, LaVonne married Durwood D. Baker in Neosha, Missouri. The Bakers moved to Decorah in 1952 where they built and operated the Cremee Freeze (now Whippy Dip) and Carnation Dairy until returning to Mason City in1960, where Durwood worked as a Realtor and LaVonne worked at Woolworths and retired from Younkers Department Store. They enjoyed dancing at the Surf Ballroom and belonged to a square dance club for several years. They were long time members of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was very proud of her family and family gatherings, cooking, gardening and reading.

LaVonne is survived by her son, Dennis (Judy) Baker of Apple Valley, MN; daughter, Cheryl (Bruce) Kettner of Irvine, CA; grandchildren, Christopher (Lea) Baker of Mason City, Suzanne (Jorge) Aponte of Waukee, IA, Jennifer (Peter) Kettner of Wayne, PA, Stephanie (Matthew) Covington of Santa Monica, CA; great-grandchildren Brittany, Sydney, Ariana, Brennen, Henry, Brooke, Gavin and Alexander; and great-great-grandson Mason. Also, sisters-in-law Virginia Lunning of Hampton and Sharron Lunning of Swaledale and numerous nieces and nephews.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her husband, Durwood in 2005, parents, three brothers, two sisters, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.
