Michael Kelsh Dead

Tomorrow will witness the passing of all that is mortal of Michael Kelsh an old and honored citizen of this township, and when the last sad rites are over and he is laid in his final resting place there will be an ache in many a heart, yet mingled with a feeling of joy that the hands of the hardy pioneer, hands which worked so hard in the upbuilding of the home and were ever outstretched to help the weak and needy, are folded in peace and rest, without a single stain.

Michael Kelsh was born in Ireland in August, 1828, and came to this country in 1852, residing in Pennsylvania for about three years. From there he went to Wisconsin, where he was united in marriage with Catharine McGovern, who preceded him in death, passing away on May 16, 1907.

In 1881 Mr. Kelsh removed with his family to Dougherty township, Cerro Gordo, Iowa, where he resided on a farm until 1896, when he removed to Rockwell. Since the death of his wife Mr. Kelsh made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Dennis O’Keefe, northwest of Dougherty.

Deceased was attended during his last illness by Dr. Holman of Rockwell who pronounced the cause of death to be pneumonia.

Deceased leaves to mourn his loss two sons and three daughters: Thomas J. of Dougherty, Matthew of Floyd County, Mrs. D. O’Keefe, of Dougherty and Mrs. D. O’Connor and Miss Ella Kelsh of Rockwell.
