LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Kevin John Carney, 46, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died Saturday (Feb. 14, 2009) at his home in Las Vegas, Nev.

He is survived by his wife, Fatima Carney; and three-year-old son, Kevin; his parents, Richard and Joan (Jenson) Carney; his sister, Laura Carney and her husband Barry Cullison, of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; his mother-in-law, Nereyda Lopez; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Maria Magdalena Lopez, Carolos Lopez Jr., Olmedo Lopez, Josefa Mudarra Lopez, Rigoberto Lopez, Selma Ortega Lopez, Hector Lopez, Guadalupe Graviet, Jose Luis Lopez, Cesar Lopez, Lourde Chavez, Francisco Lopez and Ana Maria and her husband, Ted Cooper; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his infant twin sons, Richard and Carlos; his infant brother, Patrick James; his grandparents, John and Veronica (Harty) Carney; Elmer and Irma (Scheffelbine) Jenson; his father-in-law, Carlos Lopez and brother-in-law, Bolivav J. Lopez.

Kevin was a devoted father and loving husband. He loved cars, music, food and travel. He learned fluent Spanish at the ripe old age of age 34 in order to court his devoted wife of 11 years, Fatima.

He was passionate about politics and because of his personal battles with long term health problems; he saw the need for health-care reform on a first-hand basis and became an advocate. Known for his quirky sense of humor and his ability to fix just about anything, he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Kevin was born in Mason City, on June 20, 1962, and was a 1980 graduate of Newman High School and attended Hawkeye and Dunwoody technical schools. Kevin worked as a restaurant manager for years as well as managed a GE appliance warehouse in Charlotte, N.C., but his favorite job was being a dad.

Services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at the Palm Mortuaries, 1325 N. Main St., Las Vegas, NV 89101.

Kevin’s family has requested that those wishing to give a memorial may do so to the Kevin Carney Memorial Fund in care of Fatima Carney, 1141 S. 16th St., Las Vegas, NV 89104.
