Thursday, May 03, 2018MASON CITY -- Richard James Burrier, 88, of Mason City died Monday, April 30, 2018 at his home in Mason City.
A funeral service will be held 10:30am Friday (May 4, 2018) at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 670 12th Street NE, Mason City with Reverend Robert Harting officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5pm until 7pm on Thursday (May 3, 2018) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St, NE, Mason City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Richard was born on July 5, 1929, in Kensett, Iowa, to John and Gertrude (Dokken) Burrier. He moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he attended school from first to ninth grade. At age 16, Richard went to live with his aunt and uncle in Northwood.
Richard enlisted in the United States Army on March 18, 1952 and was honorably discharged on February 20, 1954.
He married Junette Gentz on April 4, 1954 and to this union, four children were born, Gary, Daryl, Marlin and Cathy.
Richard worked as a farm hand for five years at various farms, for three years at DeBois Farm Supply and for thirty-two years at the Mason City Soy Bean Plant, Argia Industries and AGP.
He was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and enjoyed sports, playing cards and word puzzles.
Richard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Junette; his two sons, Gary and Daryl; his daughter Cathy (Jim) Dodge; three grandchildren, Justin (Callista) Dodge, Jeremy Dodge, and Clarissa Krominga; six great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Roger and Violet Baldwin, and brothers-in-law, Roger Gentz and Fred Samuelson.
He was preceded in death by his son Marlin, parents, John and Gertrude Burrier, mother and father-in-law, Roy and Caroline Gentz, sister Delores Hamer and sisters-in-law, Viola Samuleson and Eloise Gentz.
