Riggins Rites Held

Dougherty- Funeral services were held Thursday at the Wartnaby funeral home for Mrs. Martha Riggins, 85, formerly of Dougherty. Burial in West Fork cemetery.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters, Vern Riggins of Dougherty, Ross of Alexander, Clarence of Renwick, Mrs Hubert Merrick of Dougherty, Mrs Bert Edwards of Hampton, also 2 brothers, Will Lockwood of Sheffield and Clarence Lockwood of Kirkland, Wash., and one sister, Mrs Elsie Doore, of Des Moines.

----------
Mrs Martha Riggins, mother of Vern Riggins, and Mrs Hubert Merrick of this community, and of Mrs Bert Edwards who recently moved to Hampton and with whom she resided in her old age, died in Hampton on Tuesday eve. She was born Martha Lockwood and was married to Edward Riggins in the "gay nineties".
Her husband died suddenly in 1903 leaving her with a family of five youngsters and a farm to look after. Her stout pioneering heart carried her over these trying years and she lived to enjoy a "grand twilight" amongst her children and grandchildren. Besides the above mentioned survivors there are Clarence at Renwick, Ia. and Ross at Latimer, Ia. It is reported she was 85 on her last birthday.
Funeral services will be held at the Sheffield
Funeral Home Thurs. afternoon and burial will be in the West Fork Cemetery.
Our prayer today for this grand grandmother is
"May her soul find peace and rest, and may she be rewarded a hundred fold for the world of good she did in this life."
