MASON CITY — Zachary “Zach” Robert Graney, 16, Mason City, died Saturday (Oct. 23, 2010) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

A funeral service for Zach will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the First Covenant Church, 411 S. Ohio, Mason City, with Pastor Tammy Swanson-Draheim officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 122, West, Mason City. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.

The family of Zach would like to suggest that memorial contributions be directed to the Zachary Graney Memorial Fund.

Zachary “Zach” Robert Graney was born on Jan. 10, 1994, in Mason City, the son of Shane and Karry (Matz) Graney. Zach was a junior at the Mason City High School. Zach played football in the past in the Mason City schools, and was an avid Denver Broncos and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Zach enjoyed camping, playing video games, his two dogs, Sadie and Emma, was an avid music lover, and was a very loving and kind soul to everyone who would do anything for his family and friends. Zach’s great love and enjoyment was being with his family and many friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Shane and Karry Graney of Mason City; his sister, Madison Graney of Mason City; maternal grandparents, Glyse and Virgil Matz of Mason City; paternal grandfather, Jerry Graney of Mason City; his aunts and uncles, David (Geri) Matz of Clear Lake, Laurie (Dennis) Berk of Bentonville, Ark., Brad (Patti) Peterson of Mason City, and Nick Howard of Joplin, Mo.; his special cousins, David Michael Matz and Cody Matz both of Clear Lake, Brittany and Paige Berk both of Bentonville, Ark., Danielle and Josh Howard of Joplin, Mo., Matthew Peterson of Des Moines, and Abbey and Whitney Peterson both of Mason City, and Andrew Peterson of Cottage Grove, Wis.; great uncle and aunt Wally and Jackie Kimmel of Spencer; as well as other extended family members and many friends.

Zach will be sadly missed and greatly remembered by all who know him.

Zach was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Bobbie Olsen; aunt, Pam Howard; uncle, Steve Peterson, and great grandparents, Berle and Mary Hanson and Harriett Kimmel.

Zach’s sister Madison would like everyone to know that not only was Zach her brother, but Zach was her very best friend and she will miss him greatly.
