MASON CITY -- Helen Sponduris, 87, of 222 S. Pierce, died Saturday (Nov. 23, 1996) at Willow Creek Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Greek Orthodox Church of Transfiguration, 1311 Second St. S.W. with the Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Greek Orthodox Church. Trisagion service will be held at 6 p.m. tonight at the Greek Orthodox Church.

Memorials may be given to Helen Sponduris Memorial Fund.

Helen Sponduris was born May 10, 1909 in Syra, Greece, the daughter of James and Kalleope (Karamolengos) Kantaris. Helen moved with her family to Mason City at the age of 3. She attended Mason City schools and worked at Mason City Laundry part-time. She lived in Mason City most of her life. She was married to Alex Garufis, Chris Makris, and Steve Sponduris, all which preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Linde and husband Robert of Albert Lea, Minn.; a son, Nick Garufis and wife Janet of Los Angeles, Calif,; five grandchildren, Linda Bull of Mason City, Mark Bull and wife Karen of Mason City, Helen Wagner and husband Gary of Mason City, Alex Garufis and wife Carrie of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mark Garufis of Los Angeles, Calif.; four great grandchildren, Brad and Matthew Bull, Paul Wagner, and Lauren Garufis; five sisters, Stella Markos, Irene Gazes, and Christina Klein all of Mason City, Betty Armoskus of Alameda, Calif., Mary Triantafilou of Detroit, Mich.; and one brother, Gus Kantaris of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; one daughter, Katherine Platts; an infant grandson; three sisters; and two brothers.
