ST. PAUL, Minn. -- William J. Georgou, of St. Paul, Minn., died on Jan. 18, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul. He was 64 years old.

William (Bill) was born on Oct. 20, 1948, in Ypsilanti, Mich., the son of Nicholas E. and Pearl J. Georgou. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to Mason City. William excelled in academics (4.0 grade point average) from the 7th grade onward through his master's degree in mathematics. He also doggedly pursued the mastery of the cornet, resulting in his first chair status in the Mason City High School Symphonic Band.

Bill graduated from North Iowa Area Community College in 1969, and the University of Northern Iowa, in 1971, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He received The Purple and Gold Award, which is the highest honor bestowed upon a student by the College of Sciences and Liberal Arts.

Bill taught mathematics in the West Dubuque Public Schools in Dyersville, and Derham Hall in St. Paul. During this time he achieved his master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado. He completed accounting classes which led to a career as a certified internal auditor. Employers included Banco, Norwest, Marquette and Bremer Banks. Bill also worked for Booz Allen Hamilton in Jakarta, Indonesia, as a banking consultant and taught at the Carlson School of Business. He retired nearly 10 years ago.

William was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas, his mother, Pearl and his older brother, Gordon (Rick) Robinette. He is survived by brothers, Angelo and Thomas, as well as nephews, Scott and Steven Robinette, Nicholas and William Georgou, all living in Iowa. Among the many friends who loved him are Janie (Mrs. Thomas Georgou), Maureen Georgou (Mrs. Robert Guenther), Karl-Franz von Rugemer, Jeanne Robinette and Larry and Marjorie Braun.

Per Bill's wishes, there were no services. His cremains have been interred at Elmwood St. Joseph's Cemetery in Mason City.
