Angelo of Newton passed from this life on Thursday evening, December 8, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Angelo Nicholas Georgou, 65, was born May 11, 1951, in Mason City, the son of Nicholas Evangelos and Pearl Jeanette (Lalonde) Georgou. He was a graduate of the Mason City High School and received an Associate Degree in Civil Engineer Degree from Iowa State University in Ames.

On January 16, 1989, Angelo was united in marriage with Holly Leigh Anderson. A longtime resident of the Newton area, during his life time he had been employed as manager of the Newton Country Club, employed by the Maytag Corporation and retired as a Carrier with the US Postal Services. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He also enjoyed owning and operated a piano tuning service, as an Associate member of the P.T.G. (Piano Technician Guild), and was a very active church member of the Eagle Vision Church in Norwalk.

Angelo is survived by his wife Holly; his sons: Nicholas Georgou of Newton and William “Will” and Gail Georgou of Perry; his two grandchildren: Milo and Elliott; a brother Thomas Georgou and his wife Janie of Coralville; two sisters-in-law: Maureen Georgou and Jeanne Robinette; nephews: Scott and Steven Robinette; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Bill Georgou; and Gorgen Robinette.

A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at the Pence – Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a visitation an hour prior to the services, 10 until 11:15 a.m. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City, around 3 p.m., Tuesday.

The family of Angelo’s wants to thank you for attending and celebrating with us his life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the family in Angelo’s name or a charity of your choosing.
