Sunday, October 22, 2000Josephine “Josie” R. Gasca 82, of Mason City, died Friday, September 9, 2016 at the IOOF home in Mason City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, at Epiphany Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E., Mason City. Officiating will the Rev. Neil Manternach. Her funeral will be held on what would have been her 83rd birthday. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fullerton Funeral Home 123 2nd St. S.E., Mason City. A parish rosary will be said at 7 p.m. followed by a scripture service led by Deacon Matt Berry at the funeral home. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Condolences may be shared at the funeral home website and Facebook pages.
Josephine was born at Hollandale, MN the daughter of Henry and Julia Barragan. She attended school in Hollandale and moved to Mason City in 1942. She was a nurse’s aid and then worked for central supply at Mercy Hospital for 14 years retiring in 1966.
She was united in marriage to Modesto Gasca on Nov. 11, 1967, in Mexico. To this union was born three daughters. Josie was faithful to her church for many years until her health declined but retained her faith until the end. Raising her girls she developed a strong sense of family, and was non-judgmental in her caring of the family. She always enjoyed the annual band festival, as well as going to the community kitchen and sitting outside her home so she could visit with everyone. She loved cooking and would often start at 2 a.m. to make tortillas for many people, She also loved doing laundry and working on word search puzzles.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years Modesto, daughters Melinda “Mel” Gasca both of Mason City; Micaela “Mikki” Gasca and her husband Tim Morse of Antioch, CA; three sisters Ramona Reynozo of Kansas City, KS; Carmen Alvarez of Aledo, IL, Carolyn Huston, Mason City; brothers Joe “Danny” (Ortencia) and C.R. (Noel) Barragan, all of Minnesota; Compadre (Lupe) and Comadre (Maria) Barragan and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents, daughter Monica Gasca, and two sisters Juanita Gleason and Sarah Chavez, preceded Josephine in death.
