MASON CITY — Charles Brian "Chuck" Galkin, 38, of 1420 S. Hampshire Ave., died Sunday (June 20, 2004) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia, Ave. Mason City, with the Rev. Michael O. Stewart, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Charles B. Galkin Memorial Fund.

Charles Brian Galkin was born Feb. 7, 1966, at Iowa City, the son of Charles Fredrick and Charlotte Marie (O'Banion) Galkin.

He was united in marriage to Carrie Ann Monahan on Aug, 22,1998 at Clear Lake.

Chuck attended Mason City schools, and was a 1984 graduate of Mason City High School. He was looking forward to attending his 20-year class reunion this August. Beginning at the age of 13, Chuck cooked at various area restaurants. He worked at Tonka Coolers, Mason City, for several years. He later returned to school and became an engineer for the IC & E Railroad.

Chuck's life was centered on his family, especially his children. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, stock car races, hunting, all sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes. Chuck's final act was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.

He is survived by his wife Carrie (Monahan) Galkin, of Mason City; four children, Jessica Christine Vega Galkin, of Raymore, Mo.; Jennifer Lynn Galkin, of Mason City; Bailee Ann Galkin, of Mason City; Brandon Charles Galkin, of Mason City; his parents, Charles F. and Charlotte M. Galkin, of Mason City; two sisters, Dawn Busick, of Mason City; Brenda Reich and her husband, Steve, of Quasqueton; Aunts and Uncle, Beverly Tritch and her husband, Mearle Tritch, of Joice; Marie Watermiller, of Garner; Sherri Galkin Rossiter, of Lake Mills; father and mother in-law, Troy Sr. and Sandee Monahan, of Clear Lake; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tonya Ristau and her husband Troy, of Chaska, Minn.; Troy Monahan Jr. and his wife, Amy, of Mason City; Greg Monahan, of Clear Lake; many nieces and nephews; a great-niece and great-nephew; five cousins; and a host of very good friends.

His grandparents, Fred and Inga Galkin and Charles O'Banion and Marlene O'Banion Wallace; an uncle, Richard "Dick" Galkin, preceded him in death.
