Charlotte Marie O’Banion was born on Dec. 16, 1944, in Mason City to Charles and Marlene (Rassmuson) O’Banion. She attended Mason City High School. On Sept. 3, 1972, she was united in marriage to Chuck Galkin and to this union three children were born.
As a lifelong resident of Mason City, Charlotte held positions at the Plaza Café, the County Seat Saloon, Gentle Ben’s Pub, and most recently at the Drive In Movie Theatre.
Charlotte enjoyed shopping and going on trips to casinos with her husband, Chuck. But perhaps her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren. Charlotte had a deep relationship with her grandchildren and cherished the time she was able to spend with each one of them. Every summer she would take her grandchildren to work with her at the Drive In Movie Theatre, a tradition that holds many fond memories of their time spent with Grandma.
She loved holidays, her favorite being Christmas. She enjoyed her time spent with her family and being able to buy Christmas gifts for everyone, especially her grandchildren.
Those grateful in sharing in her life are her husband, Chuck; two daughters, Dawn Busick and her special friend, Denny Reich, of Mason City and Brenda (Steve) Reich of Quasqueton; her beloved grandchildren, Eric (Heidi) Bohl, Brian (Reina) Bohl, Jessica (Jon) Galkin Vega, Chase Froning, Jennifer Galkin, Bailee Galkin, Brandon Galkin, Kelli (Jesse) Reich, Mandi (Andrew) Reich, Nikki (Chris) Reich and John Reich; two great-grandchildren, Aaron and Kali Bohl; and an expected third great-grandchild.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Chuck Galkin.
