MARSHALLTOWN -- Hilda M. McGrath, 100, of Marshalltown, formerly of Mason City, died Friday (Dec. 15, 2000) at the Grand View Heights Care Center, Marshalltown.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street N.E., Mason City, where a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary will be said at 4 p.m. and a scriptural prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to Holy Family Catholic Church or the Marshalltown Area Catholic Schools.

Hilda was born Oct. 4, 1900, in North English, the daughter of Louis A. and Mary Louise (Van Dee Kerkove) Wagner. She attended St. Joseph Academy in Ottumwa, graduated with a teaching degree and later graduated from Hamilton's School of Commerce in Mason City. She worked at Juluis Andreas as a secretary.

Hilda was united in marriage to W.P. "Pat" McGrath on May 18, 1925, in Mason City. She worked at the Mason City Credit Bureau for more than 35 years as a credit analyst. Hilda was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and St. Sarah's Circle, was a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and was a member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling and gardening. Her most favorite times were spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hilda is survived by one daughter, Patricia Schweiger and her husband, Bert, of Marshalltown; one sister, Helen K. Morgan of Mason City; six grandchildren and their spouses, Steven and Karen Schweiger of Belle View, Neb., Laurie and Steve Pemberton of Norwalk, David and Wanda Schweiger of Ashland, Va., Michael and Katrina Schweiger of Burlington, Wisc., Julie and Chris Hammond of Marshalltown and Jill and Kit Jamieson of Fort Dodge; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Helen Wagner of Mason City and Gertrude Wagner of Northwood; and many nieces and nephews.

Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Pat, in 1974, eight brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter, Jean Marie Schweiger.
