MASON CITY — Harold Richard Marsh, 80, of 78 Registry Park, Mason City, died Saturday (April 24, 2004) at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with the Reverend Paul Nelson of the St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City officiating. Military honors will also be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association on Tuesday.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, and one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the chapel.

After the services, cremation will take place, with inurnment at a later date in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 122 West in Mason City.

The family of Harold Richard Marsh has requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa in his memory.

Harold Richard Marsh was born on Aug. 22, 1923, in Mason City, the son of Harold Marsh Sr. and Beatrice (Crumm) Marsh. He attended and received his education in the Mason City and Manly schools, graduating from Manly High School in 1942.

He was inducted into the U.S. Navy on Sept. 2, 1942, and served on the U.S.S. Trenton C.L. during World War II and was honorably discharged on Dec. 6, 1945, as a quartermaster second class.

He was united in marriage to Lillian C. Hjelle on Jan. 8, 1946, in Manly. After their marriage, Harold joined the Mason City Fire Department and after 37 years of faithful service retired as a lieutenant in 1983.

Harold owned Marsh Brothers Cement Construction Company in Mason City, and eventually handed down the business to his sons.

Harold loved to fish, hunt, go camping, traveling, was an avid Minnesota Viking fan and Jeff Gordon fan, and was a dedicated firefighter. His greatest love and enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather to his many grandchildren. Harold lived for his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lillian C. Marsh, of Mason City, his children, Deanna Pierce and her husband, Brian, of Mesa, Ariz., Cathy Holt and her husband, Gary, of Mason City, Harold Marsh Jr. and special friend, Tamsen Weaver, of Phoenix, Ariz., Dennis Marsh, of Mason City, Ricky Marsh and his wife, Sandy, of Mason City, Penny Seward and her husband, Bruce, of Mason City, Pam Garg and her husband, George, of Crosby, Minn., and Julie Wilmarth and her husband, Scott, of Mason City; grandchildren, Tammy Warzyniak and her husband, Ted, of Apple Valley, Minn., Cary and Doug Holt, of Mason City, Jayson Seward, of Mason City, Natalie Seward, and daughter, Kaitlyn, of Mason City, Brianne Marsh, of Nora Springs, Heather Jacobs and her husband, Shawn, of Mesa, Ariz., Lisa Marsh, of Lincoln, Neb., Jessica Chynoweth and husband, Adrian, of Denver, Colo., Trevor Marsh, of California, Brittina and Michael Garg, of Crosby, Minn., and Casssondra and Savannah Wilmarth, of Mason City; sisters, Shirley Solberg, of Mason City, and Patricia McCormick, of Fertile; brothers, Gordon Marsh and his wife, Delores, of Mason City, and Roger Marsh and special friend, Polly, of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Evelyn Berry.
