Robert H. Thomazin Jr. November 8, 1936 - March 21, 2018

MASON CITY - Robert H. Thomazin Jr., 81, of Mason City, passed away Wednesday (March 21, 2018) at the I.O.O.F Home in Mason City.

A Celebration of Robert's Life will be held 10:00am Saturday (March 24, 2018) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, Iowa with Pastor Dave Byrd, Chaplain, I.O.O.F Home officiating. Burial will be in the Chester Cemetery, Grinnell at a later date.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be left in honor of Robert for a memorial at the Clara Thomazin Park in Grinnell, Iowa.

Robert Howard Thomazin Jr. was born on November 8, 1936, a son of Robert H. and Clara (Buntgen) Thomazin in Shelby, Nebraska.

He attended Grinnell High School, graduating in 1955 before enlisting in the United States Navy.

Robert married the late Joan Osterberger on January 28, 1961, and to this union six children were born.

He was honorably discharged on September 11, 1961 and began working for Ritter's Hardware in Grinnell but spent most of his career with Big Bear until his retirement in July of 1996 after 33 years.

Robert hobbies included, hunting, fishing, and camping. He also liked to paint, garden and a never-ending cup of coffee. After retirement, Robert enjoyed spending time with his family and reminiscing about his past.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Curt (Erlene) Thomazin, Connie (Thad) Josten, Kevin Thomazin, Kitty (Chad) Barr, Cal (Cheri) Thomazin, and Robert Thomazin, III; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Bonnie Berry, Sandy Harris, and Sharon Fleming.

Robert lived a long and happy life and was preceded in death by many family members.
