MASON CITY- - Rodney Hansen, 75, of 812 16th St. N.E., died Sunday (Dec. 10, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave., with the Rev. Frederick J. Wood officiating. Flag presentation and Taps will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association at the church. Interment will be in Rock Falls Cemetery in Rock Falls.

Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services today at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Rodney Hansen Memorial Fund.

Rod Hansen was born Sept. 11, 1925, in Rock Falls, Iowa, the son of George and Bertha (Coonrod) Hansen. He graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the infantry, and was wounded in southern France.

Rod married Alta Bergman in 1946 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason City. Rod worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 40 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was loved by his family and friends and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife, Alta, of Mason City; daughter, Cyndi Velthoff and her husband, George, of Mason City; son, Jay Michael Hansen and his wife, Cynthia, of Mason City; grandchildren, Jennifer Velthoff, of Mason City, Molly Melendez and her husband, Carlos, of Mason City, Anne and Wil Hansen of Mason City; great-granddaughters, Clarissa and Chloe Melendez, of Mason City; sister, Shirley Wyborny and husband, Roger, of Rock Falls; sister-in-law, Mary Hansen, of Rock Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Ann Marie Velthoff; and brother, George "Jay" Hansen, of Rock Falls.
