MASON CITY — Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Folsom, 96, of Mason City, died Tuesday (April 20, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Keith Scott of the Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Memorials may be given to the Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Folsom Memorial Fund.

Betty was born Oct. 17, 1907, the daughter of Ernest Edward and Mary Belle (England) Bardsley in rural Swaledale. The family moved to a farm south of Clear Lake in 1911. Betty attended school in Clear Lake and graduated from Clear Lake High School. She also received her two-year Normal Training Degree and taught school for five years.

On June 24, 1930, Betty was united in marriage to Lawrence J. Folsom at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. In 1931, Betty and Lawrence moved to Mason City.

Betty worked for Younkers and had charge of the mens and boys departments. She retired from Younkers in 1980 after 27 years of service.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the KB Circle. She was also a member of the Minerva Study Club, the Camera Club, A.A.R.P., the Mason City Woman's Club and the United Commercial Traveler's Auxiliary.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Mary Jane Fix and her husband, Robert, of Urbandale, Larabeth Bader and her husband, Keith, of Dysart, and Linda Hamilton and her husband, David, of Oskaloosa; eight grandchildren: Candace, Shawn, Robert II, Kathryn, Karey, Kent, Matthew and Stacie; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; five brothers and three sisters.
