August 22, 2013Lakeland, Fla. — Marian (Bracken) Flynn, age 85, passed away at 8 p.m. on Aug. 15, 2013, in Lakeland, Fla.
She was born Aug. 30, 1927, in Mason City, Iowa, to Velna and Arthur James Bracken. She graduated from Mason City High School in the class of 1944. She married Raymond Flynn of Hoopeston, Ill., on Aug. 28, 1946. She lived in Hoopeston for 57 years. Marian spent many years as a food service manager for the school system in Illinois.
Her greatest joy was helping her church, the First United Methodist Church, with bazaars and quilting. She moved to Lakeland in 2003 and continued serving in another First United Methodist Church in its “Clothes Closet” by designing and making quilts, 900 to 1,000 total, for the needy children in Florida.
Surviving is a daughter, Jacqueline (Scott) Johnson; a grandson, Graham Johnson; two sisters, Dorothy Frenz of Tucson, Ariz., and Lavonne Grupp of Chanhassen, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and a nephew.
Interment will be at a later date in Hoopeston. In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial in Marian’s name to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 218, Hoopeston, IL 60942.
