Gordon Baack, 81, of Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018, at 3:30pm at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.

Gordon Eugene Baack was born on November 15, 1936, to August and Elsie (Penkert) Baack. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. He attended the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs. He held various part-time jobs during his adult life and lived with his mother until her passing in 1988.

Gordon was very close to his sister-in-law, Janet Baack, who served as his caregiver from the time of his mother’s passing until he became a resident of Oakwood Care Center in 2010. Gordon enjoyed riding his bicycle, watching TV, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and playing cards, bingo, and other games. He most enjoyed spending time with his family – and his “extended family” at Oakwood. Even though Gordon was deaf and mute, it never hindered his ability to make friends and brighten others’ days with his big smile and a thumbs up.

Gordon is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and brothers, Howard Baack and his wife, Alida and Dorance Baack and his wife, Janet.

Gordon’s family would like to thank Dr. Tracy Mixdorf and the staff of Oakwood Care Center for the care, love, and compassion they extended to Gordon.
