Winfred “Winnie” Knutson, 86, of Red Oak, Iowa, formerly of the Thornton, Iowa, area, died Nov. 14, 2002, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Neb. at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 24 days.

Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, on Tuesday, Nov. 19, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Graveside services were at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Swaledale, Iowa.

Memorials suggested to the Winifred Knutson Memorial Fund. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Winfred Marie Knutson, the daughter of Hans and Anna (Anderson) Pahus, was born March 21, 1916 in Humbolt, Iowa.

Winnie was raised and graduated from high school in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She then attended Northwest University in Missouri graduating with a degree in elementary education. Winnie was united in marriage to H. Everette Knutson on Aug. 4, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa. They moved to Red Oak, Iowa in 1957.

Winnie taught grade school in Iowa for 37 years. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Winfred was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Cheryl Anne; her husband, Everette on Jan. 23, 1967; a brother, Jennings Pahus; and a sister, Virginia Moehnke.

Winfred is survived by her son, Joel Knutson and his wife, Julie, of Bellevue, Neb.; grandsons, Christopher Knutson and Andrew Knutson, both of Bellevue; one brother, Donald Pahus of Hollywood, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
