Garry 'Slack' Elwood Savage, Jr. October 16, 1946 - December 25, 2017

Garry 'Slack' Elwood Savage, Jr, 71, Mason City, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 25, 2017.

A funeral service for Garry will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City, with Reverend Matthew Muters of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Mason City officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday at the chapel.

The family would like to suggest that those attending the service for Garry that casual attire should be worn.

Garry Elwood Savage, Jr, was born on October 16, 1946, in Shell Rock, the son of Garry Elwood, Sr, and Helen (Pohl) Savage. After graduating Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1964, he attended Mason City Jr. College. Garry was briefly employed in Charles City. Garry worked for 30 years for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Mason City, retiring in 2000.

On August 22, 1975, he married Mary Kallestad at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Garry enjoyed his family and his acreage the most, especially gardening and taking care of his numerous tomato plants. He enjoyed tinkering and repairing things, woodworking, restoring, and he loved watching westerns especially, John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. Some of his fondest memories were the annual fishing trips taken to Northern Minnesota in the summers, with his family.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary of Mason City; his children, Mike (Kari) Savage of Gilbert, AZ, Jennifer Savage of Wentzville, MO, Kelly (David) Nixt of Roland, and Brian (Annie) Savage of Grafton; three grandchildren, Kendall Riess, Ellie Savage, and Daxton Nixt; his sister, Sal (Ray) Lindaman of Davenport; his aunt, Norma Hall of Marshalltown; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Garry and Helen Savage; his nephew, Troy Lindaman, and many aunts and uncles.
