David E. Hutzel February 27, 1958 - January 22, 2018

David E. Hutzel, 59, of Mason City passed away surrounded by his family and friends on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit-Hospice of North Iowa.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2018 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE Mason City, Iowa, with Reverend Beverly Butler officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the funeral chapel. The family suggests memorials be directed to the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit-Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd Street SE, Mason City, Iowa, in honor of David.

David Earl Hutzel was born on February 27, 1958 to Don and Donna (Kisner) Hutzel in Mason City. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1976. After high school David worked in food service for many years, then Zanios Foods for several years before beginning at Gerard and AEA where he worked for over 30 years. David married Mary Ahart in 2013. Due to poor health, he had to retire in December 2012. He had two kidney transplants. The second in May of 2015, when a dear friend Charmin Heimer donated one of her's to him. He had open heart surgery, and lost his leg in March 2011. David battled cancer from January 2017 until the end.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; family, Sandi (John) Firsching, Rick (Cherry) Hutzel, Donald (Susie) Hutzel, Gary (LuAnn) Raisch, and Katheryn Kisner “Aunt Tootie”, who have been very close to him in the last several years. Helping through the hard times, through the second kidney transplant, open heart surgery, loss of his leg, and cancer.

He is also survived by Linda Raines, Donneta Lucas, Terry Smith, Steve Hutzel, Mike Hutzel, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends who became family.

Preceding David in death are his parents, Don and Donna Hutzel, favorite Aunt Virginia and Uncle Dean, grandmother Florence Kisner, as well as many other grandparents, aunts, uncles and extended family members.

David would like to thank all of those friends and family members who were there for him to the very end.
