Lila J. O'Donnell July 18, 1928 - Dec. 7, 2017

Lila J. O'Donnell, 89, of Mason City, died Thursday (December 7, 2017) at home in Mason City.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 am Monday (December 11, 2017) at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City with Reverend Kenneth B. Gehling and Reverend Jerry Kopacek officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 pm until 7 pm Sunday at the funeral chapel, where a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary will be said at 4 pm, followed by a scriptural wake service. Memorials may be directed to the Lila J. O'Donnell Memorial Fund.

Lila J. O'Donnell was born on July 18, 1928 in Mason City, the daughter of Sidney A. and Leona Florence (Bebee) Bemis. She spent all her life here. She went through the Mason City School system and graduated from high school in 1947.

Lila married Dominic J. (Dick) O'Donnell on April 2, 1948 in Mason City.

A 73-year member, Lila joined the Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War in 1944, Mason City Tent #42. She served as the National President in 1976, as well as Iowa Department President in 1970 and 2010 and held the position of Treasurer.

Lila was active in the P.T.A while her children were in school, and in 1959, Lila was the Madison P.T.A. President.

She was active in many organizations, and held memberships in the following: secretary of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association in 1972 and treasurer in 1985. In 1976 Lila joined the National Gavel Society of Washington, D.C. A member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #733, Life Member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Ladies of the Grand Army, Honorary member of the Pennsylvania Department D.U.V, and the Young at Heart Grandmother's Club. Epiphany parish-St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Anthony Circle, and the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Joan of Arc.

When Lila wasn't attending a club meeting, she enjoyed baking, fishing, traveling, attending stock car races all over the United States and Canada and was a big help to Dick in organizing the Army reunions.

Lila is survived by her children, Patricia (Arlyn) Asklidson, Mason City, and their children, Stacy (Nick) Parcher, Andrea (JT) Turnbull, Lori (Dan) Murray; Leona (Jim) Sallee, Mason City, and their children, Joseph (Lanee) Duckert, Brad (Keisha) Duckert, Kimberly (Shawn) Opstvedt; Mary (David) Adams, Mason City and their children, Troy (Molly) Adams, Cary Adams, Megan (Jason) Ellison; Richard (Connie) O'Donnell, Mason City, and their children, Michelle (Don) Case, Kristy O'Donnell; great-grandchildren, Cole (Mary) Turnbull, Mikayla Turnbull, Abbi Parcher, Julia Parcher, Scott Murray, Samantha (Kendall) Clark, Kelsie Lovell, Kasey Ebling, Katie Foth, Samantha Amy Duckert, Gavin Duckert, Tucker Duckert, Piper Duckert, Colin Opstvedt, Emily Opstvedt, Shea Adams, Ava Adams, Lila Adams, Harper Adams, Dominic Ellison, Emerie Ellison, Brandon Theilen, Mariah Theilen, Zia Hedegard; great-great grandson, Bentley Duckert and baby Clark on the way; numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dominic (Dick) O'Donnell, her parents, Sidney A. and Leona Florence (Bebee) Bemis, special friend, Edwin Greer, her sisters, Hazel, Evelyn, Gladys, Iris, Faye, Phyllis, Lois, twin sister, Lily and her brother, Edmund.
