Dennis L. Nonnweiler, 80, of Mason City, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at his home in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2016, at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W., Mason City, with the Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, and continue one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family of Dennis Nonnweiler.

The family asks that those attending the funeral and visitation wear casual dress. They would also like to thank the Hospice of North Iowa staff and Pastor Steve Hansen for all they have done for Dennis and his family.

Dennis L. Nonnweiler was born April 30, 1936, to Lester Nonnweiler and Susie (Homes) Stone in Miller, Iowa. He graduated from Garner High School before enlisting in the United States Army.

Dennis married Nancy Wreghitt on July 9, 1956, in Worthington, MN, and to this union, six children were born, Dan, Linda, Cindy, Sandi, Crystal, and Star. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1957. Dennis worked for Northwestern/Holcim Cement Plant as an electrician, retiring after 30 years. He owned Nonnweiler Saw Shop for several years.

Dennis and Nancy spent 20 years wintering in Pine to Palm in Weslaco, TX. He did missionary work in Mexico, leading a construction team building houses. Dennis enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, as well as hunting, fishing and target shooting. He built a dune buggy to take on family adventures.

Dennis was a stock car driver, proudly driving the #8 car. Recently, he would make Hot Wheel ramps for the great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy Nonnweiler, Mason City; son, Dan (Jill) Nonnweiler, Mason City; daughters, Linda Alexandres, Cedar Falls, Cindy (Gary) Shackleton, Plymouth, Sandi (Dale) Schnetter, Mason City, Crystal (Roberto) Cotoc, Mason City, and Star Hesley, Mason City; 14 grandchildren, Jeff, Kaley, Jake, Jay, Ashley, Chelsea, Hilary, Garrett, Drew, Molly, Malena, Marisol, Franco, and Emilio; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Joan Nonnweiler, Omaha, NE.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Nonnweiler and Susie (Homes) and Arnie Stone; a brother, Gerald Nonnweiler; two sisters, Nancy Nonnweiler and Betty Bishop.
