Donald J. Prindle, 91, of Mason City died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at the IOOF Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at the First Christian Church, 318 N. Adams, with the Rev. Keith Scott officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov.2, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Interment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association.

Donald James Prindle was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Union, the son of Lester Smith and Annie Mae (Gough) Prindle. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in airway communications until his honorable discharge in 1943. On July 21, 1950, Donald was united in marriage to Nellie May Carmany at the Plymouth Methodist Church. He worked as a route salesman at Carnation Co. for 20 years and later became employed with Northern Trails AEA where he enjoyed serving schools and teachers of the area. Donald also enjoyed spending time with his family, going for walks and coin collecting.

He was an 80-year-member of First Christian Church where he served as deacon, elder and actively participated in other capacities. He was also a member of R.S.V.P. and the American Legion. At Christmastime, he rang a bell at a Red Kettle for the Salvation Army. Donald also volunteered with Silver Advantage where he served on the Advisory Board.

Donald is survived by his wife of 64 years: Nellie Prindle of Mason City; his son: Tim Prindle and wife Corinne Jones of Urbandale; and three grandchildren: Zachary, Cassandra and Joshua Prindle. Surviving also are nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters: Geraldine Peterson and Irma Shugar; and 1 brother: Harold Prindle.
