Bessie Amanda Pappas, 91 of Mason City, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 1311 Second Street S.W., Mason City, with Rev. Joseph Mirowski officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, in Mason City.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2016, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel in Mason City, with a Trisagion Prayer Service beginning at 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Bessie’s name.

Bessie was born October 16, 1924, the daughter of Nick and Amanda Vasilakos in Chicago, IL. She married William Anthony Pappas on June 22, 1952, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago.

A graduate of Amundsen High School in Chicago, class of 1942, Bessie worked for the family business, Ideal Candies, throughout high school until 1952.

Bessie was a member of Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Mason City, Daughters of Penelope, and Ladies of Philoptochos. She was a very dedicated wife, mother, and church member.

Bessie is survived by two sons, Dr. Anthony W. Pappas of Waterloo and Nicholas Pappas of Mason City; a sister, Katherine Dagres of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister-in-law, Harriett Mastores.
