George Stepleton, 79, of Mason City, IA, died Monday, May 8, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

A visitation will be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at First Baptist Church, 125 E. State St., Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. with a one hour prior visitation on Friday, May 12, 2017, at the church with Pastor Randy Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

George Edward Stepleton was born on Dec. 15, 1937, in Mason City, IA, to Thomas Edward and Rika Henrietta (Buss) Stepleton. He was fathered by Ray “Bud” Roggeman; who was a positive impact in his life. George is a native of Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School.

On June 11, 1960, George was united in marriage to Sandra Merritt at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church; just weeks after he was drafted into the United States Army and served until 1962 when he was honorably discharged.

Throughout his life, George was a member of the VFW, First Baptist Church and North Iowa Pigeon Club.

George was extremely proud of his 42 years and 10 months he was employed at AMPI, where he retired from. Although he was a remarkably hardworking man, George made sure to set aside time for his family. He attended all of his three sons' extracurricular activities and even coached many of them. George was an avid softball player until age 68; he played fast pitch softball for Butter Top, slow pitch softball for various church leagues, but most of all enjoyed playing Davies Robinson softball. George was also an avid fisherman and collector.

George had an immense love for his wife, children, grandchildren and food. He loved food; especially fried chicken, which he could easily consume 7 days a week.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Sandra Stepleton and three sons: Timothy (Kathryn) Stepleton of Mason City and their children: Thomas, Keegan, Sabrina, Kaylee and Timothy “T.K.”; Daniel (Jodeen) Stepleton of Tipton, IA and their children Danielle and Dylan; and James (Kimberly) Stepleton of Mason City and their children: Ramsay, Katherine Marissa, Joshua, Aurora, Andrew and Miya.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Rika Stepleton; three brothers and two sisters.
