Thomas A. Richardson, 61, of Mason City, IA, died Thursday, October 23, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with Pastor Ed Bard, Hospice of North Iowa Chaplain officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Monday, October 27, 2014 at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Thomas Richardson memorial fund in care of the family.

Thomas was born on September 18, 1953, in Mason City, the son of Don and Florence E. (Faber) Richardson. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1972, and continued his education at Wyoming Technical Institute with a degree in Auto Mechanics.

On April 28, 1973, Thomas married Vicki Darling at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City. The couple later divorced in 2001.

On February 6, 1981, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1985. He later joined the Army National Guard until 2001. He worked for Henkel Construction Company for several years before becoming self-employed.

Thomas enjoyed hanging out with family and friends, fishing, hunting, NASCAR Races and Jeff Gordon. He also enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota Vikings. Thomas was a member of the Moose Lodge.

Thomas is survived by his children: Cheri Richardson of Mason City, Thomas A. Richardson Jr. and wife Jackie of Mason City, Abbe Koenig of Colorado Springs, CO, and Samantha Manchester and husband Nick of Rangely, CO; 5 grandchildren: Mercedes Lestrud, Blaze Peterson, Austin Richardson, Colton Richardson, Mackenzie Manchester, and one on the way; 1 brother: John Richardson and wife Marge of Mason City; aunt: Rita Faber of Ionia, IA; cousins: Rhonda Bronner and husband Paul of Ridgeway, IA and Tammy Ruiz and husband Luis of Mason City; and a nephew: Keith Richardson and wife Pam, of Boston, MA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an uncle: Paul Faber.
