Ray A. McCarville, 85 of Mason City died Thursday (April 3, 2014) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday (April 8, 2014) at First United Methodist Church, 119 South Georgia Ave. , Mason City. Visitation will be held from 5 -7 pm Monday (April 7, 2014) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel. A graveside service with full military rites will follow the funeral service at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Those who desire may give memorials to the American Cancer Society in Ray’s memory.

Ray Allan McCarville was born on November 26, 1928 to Michael and Frances (Turck) McCarville in Cresco, IA. Ray attended and is a graduate of Lime Springs High School.

Ray was inducted into the United States Navy on September 27, 1950 and was honorably discharged July 28, 1954.

On December 11, 1976 Ray was united in marriage to Patricia L. Marxen and have enjoyed the past 37 years together. Ray and Pat raised 5 daughters together.

Ray was a talented man and a hard worker. Over the years he has worked at Armour, Winnebago, Northwest Cement and retired from Maytag. Some of his hobbies and interests include pheasant hunting, fishing, camping and doing crafts involving wood. Most recently he enjoyed playing card games like 500 and Skip Bo. Ray enjoyed camping at Clear Lake, and also traveled all around the U.S with the camper.

Most of all Ray enjoyed spending every moment he could with his grandchildren and was good at teasing the kids. He loved his family very much and will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pat McCarville; daughters, Michelle (Russ) Spurgeon, Diane (Richard) Hayes, Barbara Scott, Sandra (Rick) Peyton and Connie (Dave) Miller; grandchildren, Steven Spurgeon, Bethany (Mike) Burchard, Christa (Rob) Zahradnik, Tim Hayes, Tyler Hayes, Brad Peyton, Ariel (Jeremy) Kay, Laura (Marc) Cahalan and Brian Miller; eight great grandchildren; his siblings, Ed (Inez) McCarville, Dave (Donna) McCarville, Mike McCarville, Madonna Reasoner, John (Judy) McCarville, brother-in-law, Ray Craft; as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lauretta; sister, Rilla Craft; son-in-law, Joe Scott; sisters-in-law, Shirley McCarville and Judy McCarville.
