Rockwell -- Vietta Lorene Bruns, 103, of Rockwell, IA, died Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a one hour prior visitation on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 502 2nd St. S., Rockwell, with Pastor Rhea Evanson officiating. Interment will follow at Rockwell Cemetery.

Vietta Lorene Bruns, 103, of Rockwell, IA died Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

Vietta was born along with her twin sister Viola on February 13, 1914 in Latimer, IA to Jens and Adaline (Baker) Pederson. She grew up in the area and graduated high school in 1932. On June 14, 1939 she was united in marriage to Otto William Bruns at the Lutheran parsonage in Rockwell. To their union, two children were born. Vietta and her family resided in Marion, IA, Minneapolis, MN and lastly Rockwell, IA, since 1970.

Throughout her life Vietta worked as a seamstress for Risto in Mason City for 21 years. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and was a Mary Church Circle member; very devoted to her faith. Vietta also belonged to the Kensington Club and Grandmothers Club. In her free time she enjoyed flower gardening and playing cards; especially 500 and pinochle. Vietta would go fishing and pheasant hunting with her husband Otto. She loved spending time with her family. Vietta had a close relationship with her twin sister Viola; they were hard to tell apart so both were called “Vi.”

Those left to cherish her memory include son, Donald Bruns of Palm Springs, CA; grandchildren: Anna (Jamie) DeKruif, Eric (Jo Anne) Folkers and Tim (Brandy) Bruns; 8 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren and sister, Rozella (Ed) DeVires.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Bruns; parents, Jens and Adaline Pederson; daughter, Betty and her husband Jerry Folkers and sisters, Viola Root and Verta Mae Jorgenson.
