Sylvan Tosel, 93, of Mason City, passed away Friday May 1, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary's Campus, Rochester, MN.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday (May 6, 2015) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with Pastor Kevin Jones officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday (May 5, 2015) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Sylvan Tosel was born on September 27, 1921 in Manly, Iowa, son of James and Anna (Johnson) Tosel and was one of five children. He attended Mason City Schools. He served in the Army during WWII and was stationed in New Guinea. Sylvan was united in marriage to Marguerite (Havig) Tosel on February 20, 1943 in Tacoma, Washington, and to this union three children were born.

Sylvan was a manager for a photo company and he maintained the photo equipment, owned and operated Tosel Brothers Toro's Service for ten years, and retired in 1978. After retirement Sylvan and Marguerite traveled to many different states throughout the U.S. He worked for John Pappas Landscaping during his retirement years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and VFW.

He enjoyed tinkering, fixing what needed to be fixed, going to Mason City basketball games with Steve, camping, hunting, snowmobiling and fishing in Canada where he earned a catch and release award, loved spending time with his family, friends and grandchildren.

Sylvan is survived by his wife, Marguerite Tosel, of Mason City; son, Steve (Becky) Tosel, of Mason City; daughter, Ruthanne (Steven) Fox, of Mason City; son, Tom Tosel, of Mason City; four grandchildren, Shelly Fox (Jeff VanHorn); Megan (Chris) Faught; Tim (Jennifer) Tosel; Ann Tosel; six great grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; one sister, Ava Coolican; one sister in-law Stella Tosel.

Sylvan is preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, Nicholas and John Tosel; two brothers, Elmer and Edward Tosel; one sister Maxine Judd.
