Catherine “Kay” M. Snyder, 90, of Mason City passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A Celebration of Catherine’s life will be held 11,a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2016, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with Father Neil Manternach of Epiphany Parish officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.

Catherine M. McDaid was born Feb. 1, 1926, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, daughter of Neal and Rose (McLaughlin) McDaid. She moved to the United States in April of 1948 arriving on the SS Mauretania in New York.

Catherine moved to Mason City and began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. While there she worked to obtain her citizenship.

In 1955 Catherine married Robert Snyder, and to this marriage five children were born. While being married she worked as a housewife and raised her children. Later she worked at the Crystal Sugar Beet plant for three years and then for the Iowa Beer and Liquor Control Commission until it closed. She then worked as a hostess for the Holiday Inn in Mason City until her retirement.

In her early days Catherine enjoyed bowling in her bowling league, dancing, and singing. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, and gardening. Catherine showed compassion to all, taking care of everyone in their time of need. Catherine enjoyed entertaining and was family-oriented.

She was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing the NCAA bracket and was a true Hawkeye fan. Catherine loved animals and gave to many charities. Most of all Catherine enjoyed time with her family and friends.

Catherine is survived by her children, Teresa (Randy) Logan, Mason City, IA, and their children: Adrian (Sherri) Garza, Jackie (Bob Whitney) Joachim, Jessie (Jon) Burke, Tara (Pat) Nelson, Ben (Kiley) Logan; Cathy (Chris) Hagen of Iowa City, IA, and their children: Alex Hagen, Nick Hagen, Sarah Hagen; Robert Snyder of Eagan, MN, and his children: Sean Snyder, Amanda Snyder, Ryan Snyder; Erin (Robert) Murphy of Hampton, IA, and their child: Courtney Murphy; John Snyder of Wray, Colorado; 16 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Patrick (Helen) McDaid, Shaun McDaid, Carmel (Roy) Barney; Special Extended sons Rick Lee of Mason City, and Greg Lee of Cannon Falls, MN; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Catherine stayed in this world with us long enough to be present for the birth of her 16th great-grandchild, Iris Elizabeth Burke, born at 3:15 p.m., passing just 90 minutes later.

Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, sister Roísin McDaid, infant sister Bridget, grandson John Joseph Snyder Jr., and her sister-in-law Marilyn McDaid.
