MASON CITY -- Sydney Nikole Alcorn, 14, of Mason City, died in an automobile accident on Monday, April 10, 2017, in Mason City.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating.

Per her family's wishes, Sydney's body will be cremated following the service.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Family suggests memorial contributions to the Sydney Alcorn Memorial Fund.

Sydney was born Aug. 28, 2002, the daughter of April Regina Dakin of Mason City and Michael Allen Alcorn II of Rudd. She was currently a freshman at Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock High School.

Sydney described herself as being funny, smart, and sweet. She was a daughter and granddaughter who loved her family, was loyal to a fault and was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed animals, hanging out, shopping, babysitting her cousins, being on the computer and making scrapbooks.

Sydney is survived by her mother and step-father, April (Jeremy Miller) Dakin of Mason City; father, Mike Alcorn II of Rudd; two brothers, JR and Landon Miller of Mason City; a sister, Aeralinn Alcorn of Mason City; a great-grandmother, Rosie Allen of Mason City; grandparents, James and Linda Dodson of Lusby, MD, Dennis and Debbie Dakin of Knoxville, IA, Rick and Ann Miller of Mason City, Lane and Kathy Wooten of Lagrange, GA, and Mike and Debbie Alcorn of Rudd; special aunts, Sierra and Shaina Alcorn of Rudd, Penny Olsen of Mason City and Kelly Miller of Mason City; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

Sydney will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

Names of Those Killed in Mason City Crash Released

MASON CITY, Iowa – The names of five people killed in a fiery Mason City crash early Monday morning have been released.

The Mason City Police Department says 20-year-old Zachary Hartley was driving the 2007 Jeep Liberty when it crashed. His passengers were 17-year-old Donte Foster, 18-year-old Roderick Lewis, 14-year-old Sydney Alcorn, and 19-year-old Alex Wiebke. All five perished in the crash.

The accident was discovered during a power outage west of downtown around 2:40 a.m. During a search for the cause of the outage an officer found a Jeep that had crashed in the 400 block of 6th St. S.W. The occupants were unresponsive and pronounced dead on the scene.

A vigil was held at the crash scene last night in Mason City. Memorials have also been placed at the scene of the accident as well.
