Arthur E. "Art" Niles Sr., 82, of Mason City, died Sunday (Feb. 9, 2014) at his home in Mason City, while under the care of Hospice of North Iowa.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 13, 2014) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with Pastor Ed Bard officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held Wednesday evening (Feb. 12, 2014) from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel and will continue one hour prior to Art's service on Thursday.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Art's name in care of his family.

Arthur Edward Niles was born Aug. 7, 1931, in Plymouth, the son of Carl and Carrie (Hartman) Niles. He attended school in Plymouth. United in marriage to Barb (Brown) and blessed with three children, Linda, Cathy and Ed. For many years Art and his family farmed and milked cows just outside of Riceville.

Art was united in marriage to his second wife Millie (DeGeus) and the union was blessed with three boys; Scott, Chad and Steve. The family farmed outside of Bassett, milked cows, raised beef cattle, farrowed and finished hogs and raised dogs. Art especially loved attending Chad and Steve’s wrestling meets.

After retiring in 2001 Art moved to Mason City. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and his fiancée Darcy Kolb. He hosted family and friends for the Mason City Band Festival every year. He enjoyed raising pigeons, shucking walnuts, and attending church functions.

Art's greatest love and enjoyment was his family. He loved sharing stories and sharing his sense of humor with family and friends. In his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing, tending to his vegetable and flower garden, attending swap meets, canning his garden at the end of the season, and spending evenings dancing with Darcy.

Those grateful in sharing in Arthur's life are his children, Linda Shahan, Fertile, Ed (Michelle) Niles, Clear Lake, Scott (Sherri) Niles, Waverly, Chad Niles, Mason City, and Steve Niles, Mason City; his fiancee, Darcy Kolb; grandchildren, Brandon Shahan (Sandye Bednarz), Alicia Shahan (Mitch Horstman), Naomi (Shane) Wells, Heather Niles, Gabriel (Britany) Niles, Isaac and Michaela Niles, Samantha, Sarah, and Stacey Niles, and Chase Niles; great-grandchildren, Parker Niles and Gage Blunt; sisters, Viola Jermeland, Mason City, and Shirley Carlson, Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cathy Niles; son-in-law, Mike Shahan; brother, Carl Niles; and three sisters, Irene Groven, Mary Climer, and Rosie Kittleson.
