Donald Reid McAfee, 86, of Mason City, died Friday, July 4, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Keith Scott of officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Donald was born Aug. 2, 1927, in Clarence, the son of Albert L. and Wilhelmina C. (Regennitter) McAfee. In 1945, Donald graduated from Hampton High School in Hampton, and continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. In 1947, he moved to Mason City. Donald was united in marriage to Shirley A. Winterton on June 18, 1949, and made their home in Mason City. The couple recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Donald worked as a millwright at Armour Meat Packing Plant for 35 years before his retirement in 1983.

Donald enjoyed spending time and vacationing with his family. He also enjoyed golfing, tinkering on cars, reading Westerns, playing pool with friends, building and repairing televisions and later building and flying radio control model airplanes. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Academy of Model Aeronautics, River City Radio Control and the Senior Citizens Center.

Donald is survived by his wife: Shirley McAfee of Mason City; his children: Larry McAfee and wife Andrea of Stevenson Ranch, Calif., Russell McAfee of Mason City, Alan McAfee of Fort Dodge, Donna Nesje and husband Richard of Mason City, Gary McAfee and wife Virginia of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters: Wilma and Audrey; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Warren J. McAfee at birth; and his siblings: Margaret, Iva, Carol, Dale, Dean, Leroy, Wilbert, Clark, and Lawrence.
