Karl Frederick Langhart, 59, of Mason City, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Per Karl’s request, his body will be cremated.

A memorial mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, with Rev. Andrew A-Mensah and Rev. Kenneth Gehling, con-celebrants.

The family will greet friends from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church. A scriptural wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday.

Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Clear Lake Yacht Club Sailing School or Hospice of North Iowa. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.

Karl was born May 18, 1957, in Boulder, Colorado, the son of Victor D. and Margaret (Flynn) Langhart. He graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder where he met his beloved wife, Jennifer Bergo. Karl and Jennifer were married June 21, 1980, in Mason City.

Karl and Jennifer have owned and operated The Hungry Mind restaurant in Mason City since 1982. Karl loved serving his customers at the restaurant where the “locals” would eat. Time and time again the restaurant was voted best lunch by the Globe Gazette.

In his inspirational speech as an honorary cancer survivor during Relay for Life 2014, Karl said “Never give up. Remind yourself every day ‘I can, I am able, I am strong.’ ”

Karl was a member of Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church and was actively involved in the River Front Commission, Clear Lake Yacht Club and former board member of the Mason City Country Club.

Karl generously shared his zest for life, passion for cooking and deep love of sailing with friends and family, making all those around him feel welcomed and loved.

Those thankful for having shared in Karl’s life include his wife, Jennifer of Mason City; 2 sons, Karl F. Gunther (Stephanie) Langhart Jr. of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Chase Caldwell (Alyssah) Langhart of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; 3 grandchildren, Conrad, Eleanor and Charles; 5 siblings, Richard Langhart of Litchfield Park, Arizona, Angela (John) Hayes of Goodyear, Arizona, Cecelia and Kim White of Boulder, Colorado, Gregory Langhart of Louisville, Colorado, and Maggie Langhart (Greg Smith) of Berthoud, Colorado; mother-in-law, Patricia Bergo of Mason City; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Pamala Bergo Coffey (Tim) of Mason City; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeff (Jean) Bergo Sr. of Mason City and Rex (Julie) Bergo Jr. of Mason City; many nieces and nephews; and his precious dog Bella.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Margaret Langhart; brother, Victor P. Langhart; sister, Mary Beth Boyes; father-in-law, R. Lyle Bergo; sister-in-law, Karen Langhart; and niece, Erika Langhart.
