Alice Louise Monson, 81, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. Alice gave in death as she gave in life; she was a tissue donor with the Iowa Donor Network.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dr. Pat Hall officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

The family suggest memorials to The Humane Society of North Iowa.

Alice was born on Aug. 24, 1933, to Carl Edward and Gertrude Louise (DeHart) Deborn, in Ottumwa, Iowa. She attended school in Ottumwa. She worked as a waitress, where she met Curtis Monson, who was working construction in Ottumwa. They later were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

They traveled with his work and eventually settled in Clear Lake, where they raised three sons, Richard, Clifford and Wayne. Over the years, they enjoyed camping, fishing and trips to Canada. They also enjoyed housing the North Iowa Hockey players and attending their games. Alice loved bingo and going to the Casino. She enjoyed watching the birds at her bird feeders and cooking for the family Christmas get together. Alice always had a special love for her dogs, who were more than just companions to her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Richard (Lee) Monson, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Cliff( (Carol) Monson and Wayne (Royce) Monson, both of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, Scott (Niki) Monson, Jon (Danielle) Monson, Tim (Chennell) Monson, Ray Monson, Karin Monson, Shane (Tanya) Monson, Chris Monson, Eric Monson and Melissa Monson; thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Schullow, Ottumwa; brother-in-law, Ron (Mary Ellen) Monson, Clear Lake; and a sister-in-law, Kathy (Jerry) Steiert, Osage, Iowa; and her dog, Kylie, her special companion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Gertrude Deborn; husband, Curt Monson; and one brother, Don Deborn.

Ward Van-Slyke Colonia Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
