DAVID W. HURN DEAD
Passed Away Saturday at 3:45 -
Was Sitting In His Chair in His Home When Death Came
________________

Sunday forenoon H. E. Palmeter received a message stating the death of D. W. Hurn, at his home in Spokane. The message was brief, merely stating the fact of his death and that he was sitting in his chair in his home when the end came.

Mr. Hurn had not been ill since his reent visit here, is Mr. Palmeter's belief. His illness almost six months or so ago, was of a serious nature and left him in a very weakened condition.

Mr. Hurn was born near Racine, Wisconsin, about 1855. In about 1878 he came to Clear Lake and opened up a law office. Soon after this he formed a partnership with Mr. Bush, the firm being Bush & Hurn. A year or so later Mr. Kelley, now Judge Kelley, joined the law firm. In about 1879 Mr. Hurn became associated with the other bank but in 1884 he transferred his interests to the Cerro Gordo State Bank with which he has been connected ever since, being on of its largest stockholders and was for many years its president.

About ten years ago Mr. Hurn moved to Spokane, where after a few years he was elected Municipl Judge which position he held for several years. Since then he and his daughter [Reba] practiced law together.

Mr. Hurn was a man of splendid ability, a man of keen intellect, a real financier. He has many friends in Clear Lake, all of whom deeply regret his sudden death.

It has been impossible to get a definite obituary of Mr. Hurn, as no one here possesses any dates as to his birth, date of marriage, etc.

The Reporter will give a complete obituary in its next issue.

Local News Items
The H. E. Palmeter
family received a letter yesterday from Mrs. D. W. Hurn, of Spokane [WA]. She said Mr. Hurn was seated in the home reading a Clear Lake paper when he passed away. She had just gone up stairs when she heard the phone ring, and as Mr. Hurn did not answer it, she came down stairs and saw him sitting in his chair with his head leaning to one side, life extinct. They had just returned from a shopping trip down town, and Mr. Hurn felt as well as usual. The doctor said death was due to hemorrhage of the brain.
